Strategies for effective event content creation

Following on from our recent events industry content survey, we found that the majority of respondents spent an average of 2.7 hours per day on content creation.

This is a significant amount of time, especially considering the busy schedules that come with working in the events industry.

Content creation has become a vital part of our everyday lives, both personally and professionally. From creating engaging social media posts to crafting informative blog articles, content has become a powerful tool for event businesses to connect with their audience and stand out in a crowded market.

So, content how can we make the most of our time when it comes to creating quality content?

If you only have 30 minutes daily, you need those thirty minutes to work for you. This can mean creating a schedule for yourself and sticking to it, or focusing on one specific task, such as brainstorming new ideas or editing existing content.

For those with more dedicated time (5 hours per day), it's important to use this time effectively without burnout. This could involve breaking up the time into manageable chunks, taking breaks to recharge, and collaborating with others to bounce ideas off.

Of course the amount of time spent on content creation may vary depending on individual preferences and job responsibilities, however, what remains consistent is the importance of creating quality content that resonates with our audiences and ultimately helps us achieve our goals as content making event profs.

Below we offer a few strategies to help you make the most out of your time when creating content for your events business.

Strategies for productive content creation

  • Define your purpose: Before diving into content creation, clearly define your purpose. Whether you aim to educate, entertain, or inspire, having a well-defined goal will guide your creative process and make your time more productive.

  • Create a schedule: Allocate specific time slots for content creation in your daily or weekly schedule. Having dedicated time helps you prioritize your creative pursuits and ensures that they become a consistent part of your routine. It doesn't matter what you do in that time, but ensuring you don't have someone just blocking out another meeting in your diary will help you stay accountable and committed to creating.

  • Batch your tasks: Group similar content creation tasks together to streamline your workflow. Batching allows you to focus on one activity at a time, reducing cognitive load and increasing efficiency. For example, set aside a day to work on blog post topics, another for recording a series of videos and one more to create your social media posts for the month ahead.

  • Embrace tools and technology: Leverage content creation tools and platforms to streamline your process. Whether it's AI content tools like Jasper or graphic design software like Canva, or social media scheduling tools like Hootsuite, these technologies can save you time and enhance the quality of your content.

  • Seek inspiration, not replication: While inspiration is crucial, avoid replicating others' work. Use external influences as a springboard for your creativity, infusing your unique perspective into every piece of content you create. Make it yours.
