Discover Your Best Repeatable Day

We all dream of having the perfect day, where everything falls into place, and we feel invigorated, energized, and happy.

Yet, we often resign ourselves to the monotony of the 9-5, as if there is no other way to live and work. I certainly used to be like that - the pandemic challenged my mindset and I found myself asking why. Why do you do this every day?

A little different from my normal posts (is it though? I mean if you look back through them all there's a smattering of "GET OUTSIDE" type of content everywhere), but I wanted to write something that's not to, pardon the expression, too wanky about mental health week.

So, I invite you to read my musings about finding your best working day.

Before I dive into it, I should also say thank you to Katie from Explori for the inspiration for this blog. I didn't know the phrase "find your best repeatable day" until she told me about it on a call just last week - so thank you EWD pal.

Right, now we can dive in.

First things first – what is a repeatable day?

A repeatable day is a routine you can follow every day, whether it’s your workday or a weekend. It’s a day that you've really enjoyed, not endured, but enjoyed, and is one that you look forward to coming around once again.

Your repeatable day can consist of work, play, exercise, hobbies, or spending quality time with your family. Whatever it is, the key is to find what makes you happy and a routine that works for you, that you can sustain over time.

Now, you might be wondering, how do I discover my Best Repeatable Day?

The truth is, it’s different for everyone. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. It requires self-awareness, experimentation, and reflection. I don't want to go too holistic (sorry, there is a little bit of that here), but start by asking yourself these questions:

  • What activities do I enjoy doing the most?

  • When do I feel the most energized and creative?

  • What are my current commitments?

  • What is essential for my well-being? (e.g., exercise, socializing, going to the pub with mates, time alone)

  • What are my long-term goals, and how can I incorporate them into my routine?

Once you understand what matters to you, start building your repeatable day. Literally, write it down. Stick it in the diary if you must.

Experiment with different schedules, routines, and activities until you find what works best for you, and don’t be afraid to make adjustments along the way as if it's not enjoyable anymore, you need to change it.

Remember, the goal is to create an enjoyable and sustainable routine in the long run, but you do need to account for those days when the wotsit just hits the fan. Sometimes you can't control everything - and that's ok.

The benefits of organising your Best Repeatable Day

One of the most significant benefits of having a Best Repeatable Day is that it should bring a sense of purpose and fulfillment to your life. You’re not just going through the motions; you’re living intentionally, which can make all the difference to your mental health and well-being.

When you have a routine that you enjoy, it can positively impact your mental health, productivity, and creativity. You can also quite simply become a better person. You’ll likely have more energy, focus, and motivation to tackle whatever challenges come your way.

A repeatable day can help break the monotony of 9-5 and create a better work-life balance.

When you feel like there’s not enough time in the day to do the things you love, you should probably change your "routine". By creating a sustainable routine that incorporates both work and play, you can make the most of your day. You’ll have time for work, exercise, hobbies, socializing, and relaxation.

You’ll be able to prioritize what’s most important to you and feel more satisfied with why you do what you do each day.

Discovering your Best Repeatable Day requires effort, experimentation, and reflection (sorry, there's the holistic stuff again), but it’s worth it.

It’s a way to live intentionally, create purpose, and improve your mental health and well-being. By building a routine you enjoy, you can break free from the hamster wheel of 9-5, create a better work-life balance, and make the most of your day.

What does it look like for me?

For me, not every day is the same, that works for me, but the best bits, I always try to squeeze them in there.

So, take some time to reflect on what matters to you and start building your Best Repeatable Day today! If you're up for sharing - stick in the comments what your best repeatable day looks like - I'd love to hear it, but more importantly, it may inspire someone else to find their happiness too.

Me? Yep, I'm going running now - see you on the outside.

Matt
